My late breakfast

Revisit: 小籠包
Here is a more decent picture of the xiao long bao $7NT/ea which I had a week ago, too. It was better than I remember! Let me start by saying this: I love Din Tai Fung which is a really well known Taiwanese restaurants famous for their little pork buns aka xiao long bao. This little cart near my dorm is playing in a different league. No, the bun isn't paper thin. No, the filling isn't scalding hot. But damn, I appreciate the thicker, yet still soft outer skin. And the filling is very delicious.

Side note: I had an iced latte from Barista Coffee. Coffee is very expensive here, just like in the US. I had a medium cup for $120NT. There's no picture here. So, really this is a note-to-self because I am on a mission to find a place that serves good coffee. I think the best way for me to do this is by comparing lattes. Espresso is too strong, and mocha is too masked. Stay tuned for more coffee news! Note to self: I enjoyed Barista Coffee's iced latte. A MILLION TIMES better than the burnt lattes I got from my school's Starbucks stands. I was really surprised by this. I didn't really pay attention to the machines, so I'm not sure if it is a Starbucks set-up or a legit coffee place.

My substitute lunch

Matcha mochi with red bean filling
This comes from the bakery I love, Izysheng ㄧ之軒. I brought my friend there to show her where I bought my "chocolate pastry". Unfortunately, on a Friday morning, they were out! I couldn't believe it! Maybe they didn't start with any that day. That's hard to believe. Or my friends read my blog and bought all the chocolate croissants to sell back to me at a higher price? Oh, much more likely.... Anywhos, I could not leave the delicious bakery without purchasing anything, so I bought two pieces of mochi. This matcha mochi with red bean was good, but not crazy good. I did love the softness of the mochi. The bakery has many flavors, so now I must munch through all of them.

My dinner

Spareribs Noodles $75NT from that noodle place across from the police station
This was generally good, but the pork was too peppery and spicy for me. I liked the broth and the noodles. Unfortunately, I can't read the menu, so I'll have to find some time translating it before I venture in again.

  1. Hm, there are numerous coffee places (chain and independent) near where my brother lives, but they open and close pretty quickly. :T Starbucks is known for their burnt coffees so perhaps you just don't enjoy that kind of flavor. It's good that you're going to explore latte culture in Taiwan. ;)
