Food

Shui Jian Bao

Here is the sign.

Here is the menu.

Here is the food.
For about $1.30US or $39NT, you can get three baos. MMMmmmmm. Today, I ordered chives (jiao tsai) and meat (rou bao). They also have cabbage which I tried on Tuesday, but I just looooooovvvvvveeeeee chives. The meat bun is okay. The chives seemed have have some tough parts- very, very little. Nonetheless, still there. Overall, I like the chives bao enough that I would order again unless I find something better along the way to school.

Vegetarian

Corn chowder

Creamy Mushroom Spaghetti
For lunch, I went to a vegetarian restaurant which I was excited about because they are vegetarian. Unfortunately, although I was able to stomach the food, the lunch was very forgettable. And the prices are too high at $199NT+10% tip. It was a very interesting restaurant, as it seems they take Chinese vegetarian flavors and try to fuse it with Western taste. The menu is interesting, but it is neither really my taste nor really my price range for going outside my comfort zone; the possibly more tasty things were being sold as part of a combo set for up to $400NT or more as I recall. The more expensive sets come with dessert. The saving grace was the kind staff (though, it's pretty hard to find a mean booger in Taiwan), and the coffee that came with the lunch special. I was so disappointed that I don't even want to tell you which restaurant it is.

Spicy spicy

Recommended pork dish thing...

Spicy Eggplant

Spicy Stinky Tofu!

Bitter Melon

My friend brought us here, and yes it is quite good! The pork resembled the type of cut you get for bacon. I imagine it is like boiled bacon with a sweet garlic soy sauce. It is more tasty than I have just described. Spicy eggplant was a hit which is no surprise because I love spicy eggplant and it is rarely ever not tasty. Now with the stinky tofu: I like fried stinky tofu, so this was a little different. After I have it a few times, maybe it'll grow on me. I don't think I'll be getting a hankering for this non-fried variety for now. Lastly, I surprisingly enjoyed the bitter melon. Perhaps the sauce helped a lot. So, if I ever need Sichuan food, I would definitely want to venture here again. It is near Chen San Ding. For four people, this came to $810NT which isn't terrible considering it was tasty and the people let us take a sweet time conversing.

Special round

Oh, be still, my beating pink heart!
I love pink guava. Love. Love. LOVE. I don't know what it is, but I just love it so much more than white guava. So, on the wonder home when I saw this, I nearly jumped out of my skin. I don't know if $50NT is considered a lot, but I don't care because this is the first I have seen it during this trip. And it's just seconds from my dorm! Okay, more like 2-3 minutes. Mmmmm, and it was worth every dollar. Other than the color difference, I think what makes pink sooooo much better than white is the flesh; white flesh is a crispier texture whereas pink flesh is just damn yummy.
