My breakfast...
...not featured here. I think I just had a tea egg and orange juice from 7-11. BY THE WAY, I totally lied the other day when I said they sell soy sauce eggs when in fact they sell tea eggs.
My lunch
 |
| 涼麵 (Liang mian) - cold noodles |
 |
| 臭豆腐 (chou dou fu)- stinky tofu |
I went to the shop near the vegetarian place east of 台大. I found the stinky tofu to be pretty good and crispy. It has some garlic soy sauce for an extra pungent odor-ful mouth. So, watch...or wash...your mouth. Liang mian was decent; however, with microscopic pieces of meat and a small serving of veggies, this does not a complete meal make. I really worry about my diet here because it feels so carb heavy.
My snacks: speaking of carbs
 |
| Chocolate Croissants at ㄧ之軒 |
Here it is! The photo we have all been lusting for! And I'm sorry it isn't more close up and beautiful, but there will be time for that.
 |
| 提拉米蘇 (tilamisu) - tiramisu! in a cute cup |
 |
| No justice can be done to portray how much I love you. |
Let's talk about the tiramisu, as we have already discussed the dream that is the chocolate croissant. Assessment: okay. Too much cream, not enough ladyfinger, not enough espresso...not enough rum. I don't remember tasting any rum! Though to be fair, perhaps no rum is better for Taiwanese taste. There's a better tiramisu nearby which my brother has shared with me, and in time, I will reveal this item and possibly its whereabouts.
My dinner in 烏來 (Wulai)
 |
| 香腸 (xiang chang) - sausage $35NT, 高粱 (gao liang) flavor |
I say it loud and proud. I LOVE SAUSAGE. Go ahead, make your innuendos. Don't give a damn! Chinese and Taiwanese sausages have a little bit of sweetness that perhaps brings them to the sweet and savory level, a formula which often makes me go bonkers. Gao Liang (or kaoliang ju) is sorghum wine. I don't think I could really taste it...or maybe that is why this Wulai sausage is especially delicious. The sausage is not dense. Of course, it isn't flaccid either since it is grilled obviously. Good flavor, even if it is a tad salty. When I came to Wulai previously, I bought a sausage from here.
 |
| 苦瓜
鹹蛋 (ku gua xian dan) - bitter melon with salty egg |
For dinner, there were many dishes: many special veggies such as pearl onions, ferns, weird almost grain-like things, etc. Wulai is famous for the hot springs. It's a beautiful place. Unfortunately, it was raining, so it was hard to see and appreciate all its features. Wulai is also known for wild pig, but I don't know why. Whatever pig I had during dinner, which was cut into strips, was tough and not especially...suited for me. The pig inside the sausage though was a delicious pig indeed. I've cut to the chase here with my dinner because I don't want to upload ten millions photos, and this was memorable. It's simple to make, but it is delicious once you are mostly used to the bitterness of bitter melon.
Yes, you lied about the tea egg.
ReplyDeleteI love sausage too! But not bitter melon or stinky tofu.
