My breakfast

I had the 黑飯糰 again. This is the place next to the 7-11 near my school. I had it with spicy pickled veggies, but unfortunately, I was not a fan. I wish I had gone with the non-spicy variety. With my breakfast, I had this interesting yangleduo/"yakult"/yogurt which had bits of aloe in it. I did not know this prior to purchasing....This 養樂多 isn't terrible, though I prefer a stronger yogurt-y taste.

My lunch
Ice cream
Wow, with all that rice fantuan can keep me full for quite a while. I wasn't ready for lunch time ~2 hours later. So, like last time when I had the 奶冰 naibing for lunch, I had instead this ice cream sandwich $15NT which is like two saltine crackers squishing together a blob of ice cream. This ice cream is now a distant memory, but I do recall enjoying the cracker bit. Though the physical resemblance is there, the cracker is different from typical saltines.

My dinner at 寧夏夜市 Ningxia Night Market

What is this?
I love 蚵仔煎!
Today we had a field trip in Dadaocheng which was kind of boring for me because I couldn't understand most of it. Even when I did understand parts, I couldn't string the parts together to understand the story. Something, something, Japanese occupation. Something, something, history. I know it's such a shame! Though, honestly, I'm sure even if I did learn it, I would forget it about an hour later. My friend gave me a recap, and I was blown away by her ability to retain all the information, parts of which I reaffirmed with the small bits of information I gathered. As she recapped while I ate my oyster-y dinner before her, I had flashbulb moments in which I recalled certain things that had been said that I could somewhat understand. Though, give me a pop quiz now, and my mind will draw a fatty blank.

Whatdafuq is that noodle thing? I got it at the vendor's recommendation....I just looked it up: guo shao yi mian 鐹燒意麵. It's probably because I'm not used to it, but at $80NT, it's not something that was really worth it for me. Inside is something like egg noodle slightly fried and dished into a hot soup which contained small oysters (yum), a clam shell, shrimp, and some assorted veggies. I was really here for th蚵仔煎, oyster omelette $60NT. It was good, and it satisfied my craving for 蚵仔煎, but I would never come out of my way here just to have it. I'd rather go to Shilin or Hsinchu! I think it was the sauce: whereas I usually eat a reddish tomato-y sauce, I felt like I tasted a hint of peanut.

Taro Balls

Taro Ball with egg and rou song

Following dinner, my friend and I decided to wait in line for this item. In 台灣, and I'm sure in most countries, there is a general understanding that a long line means a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I bought the 蛋黃芋餅 dan huang yu bing which were $20NT each. Sadly, after a 10-15 minute wait, I only purchased one, not knowing that I was holding a well-balanced, fried balled concoction of sweet taro and savory rou song and egg. I would definitely wait in a reasonable line for this again, and I'll order at least three next time.

Afterthought

As I hurried towards the MRT, I passed by this beautiful bakery called ㄧ之軒 I Jy Sheng (really, it should be yi zhi suan) because this delicious pain au chocolat $38NT caught my eye and reeled me in. Wow, this delicious flaky, buttery croissant was protected by this thin turtle shell of harden chocolate dusted with powdered sugar. Mmmmm! I wish I could have it right now! Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of it because I began eating it somewhere between Ningxia and my dorm, and the delicate shell, no longer much like a turtle, fragmented into chocolate bites. I want this. I want this so hard. More than I want boba. Unfortunately, both are probably equally deadly for my waist and thighs....

  1. I believe 寧夏夜市 is famous for lots of 蚵仔煎. ;) I made my mom and brother go there once, mmmmm. I've never seen the taro balls... intrigued! Okay so make sure we plan enough time together to have ice at Ice Monster and croissants at 一之軒. And any other delicious things you haven't had yet.
